The Beginning of a New Tradition? “Cuppa Conversations” to Launch at Crux Coffee

This coming Wednesday, November 1st, marks a new chapter in the intellectual lives of the students at Wyoming Catholic College, one that we hope (and trust) will become a regular feature for members of the local community, as well.

Inspired by the unusual teaching methods implemented by the professors at the Pearson Integrated Humanities Program (IHP) at the University of Kansas—a program that exerted an enormous amount of intellectual and spiritual influence over Wyoming Catholic at the time of its founding—several of our faculty members wish to embrace those roots in a new and exciting way.

At the IHP, Drs. John Senior, Frank Nelick, and Dennis Quinn would often teach by gathering their students around to listen as the three of them engaged in conversation; on Wednesday at 8:00pm, a trio of WCC professors—Dean Thaddeus Kozinski, and Profs. Kent Lasnoski and Kyle Washut—will invite students and members of the Lander community to come and listen as they talk to one another about Plato’s Phaedrus. The event is being called “Cuppa Conversations,” and is being sponsored by Crux Coffee Shop, which will be hosting the evening at its location (at 300 Main Street in Lander, Wyoming).

The event is open to the public, and attendees are invited to read 227a-258b of Phaedrus (p. 507-533 in Cooper’s Plato: Complete Works) before the event, though familiarity is certainly not required. We expect a fun, exhilarating evening of speculation and great conversation, and hope to see you there!
